American ring boxes are quite hard to come across.  The only companies I have boxes from are Howard and Co. from New York and
R. Blackinton from Massachusetts.  I am unsure if Sturdy Co. is
American or Canadian.   S. Cottle company of New York is the
latest American company found.

The boxes on this page are part of my personal collection and are not for sale.

Various Ring Boxes
Ellis box- six sided marked Ellis Bros on bottom and sterling. Monogram EGG on top. Gold satinin lid reads "Ellis Brothers Limited Toronto".
#1 Heart shape. Top in engine turned, inside lid satin is cream color and the velvet ring pad is baby blue with a cream cording around it. The side of the bottom and the top are hallmarked. The top with lion passant an "O". The bottom with HM,
anchor, lion passant, "O". Maker mark H.Matthews , Birmingham, 1913-14. This box is made by the same maker of the highly sought after ?Birks Heart shaped ring box?. My box happens to be
engine turned on top and the satin in the lid does not have ?Henry Birks and Sons? embossed on it. Having said that, the hallmarks are exactly the same. The heart shaped boxes we made in Birmingham, England for Birks, not Canada. On Feb. 2003, Ebay had a heart shaped box with the satin marked Birks and it went for $1385.00. So keep your eyes open for heart shaped boxes.
Oval box-has latch hook closure on front, inside lid is cream satin and baby blue velvet ring pad. Bottom is hallmarked as follows- D&F, anchor, lion passant, lowercase a ( i think, it's a bit rubbed). Birmingham, 1900-01, and the maker mark D&F is Deakin & Francis.
#2Heart shaped-Baby blue velvet inside lid and ring pad. Hallmarks are not very visible. I can read anchor, lion passant. There is a makers mark but not a very good one. The date mark is missing completely. I figure it's the same age as the oval. I feel it's early 1900's Howard and company's remarks are on the picture by itself up above.

R. Blackinton Ring Box
Marks include- "R", sword over a "B", Co.- Inside satin reads: H.F. Wichman Ltd. Co.- Jeweler 1887, Honolulu Inside in golden yellow satin and velvet and both are in great condition. Has push button closure
